These conditions are the significant reasons for wellbeing disparities in New Zealand. This task will talk about the idea of SDOH comparable to a chose look into article and appropriate writing. Right off the bat, the task will investigate the idea of SDOH. Besides, it will talk about how SDOH impact wellbeing regarding the chose examine article. At long last, it will clarify how the NZ Health Strategy (2016) plans to improve wellbeing and wellbeing in Aotearoa New Zealand. The idea of SDOH SDOH comprise of various covering that impact wellbeing and prosperity. A large portion of the elements start during childbirth including science and hereditary qualities, sex, culture and family impacts on solid kid development. A portion of the components greaterly affect wellbeing and prosperity than others. The family factors incorporate the financial assets for the guardians to give essential needs to kids, training level of guardians and adequate social help (McMurray Clendon, 2015, p. 10). For better social help, the guardians ought to approach work openings or sufficient pay source. It is obvious that a portion of these SDOH are established in the political and monetary condition since strategy choices influence network life. Thus, there are different auxiliary conditions inside the SDOH. For example, the social advancement of a network expects structures to make work just as a domain that bolsters solid ways of life (McMurray, Clendon, 2011, p. 11). Individuals inside the ne twork expect access to clean water, air and healthful nourishments at reasonable costs. Also, emergency clinics and wellbeing experts who are available on request make the bigger structure of a social situation (McMurray Clendon, 2015, p. 10). Obviously, the idea of SDOH is wide and includes factors inside the control and outside the ability to control of the individuals, and that is the reason a portion of the SDOH are tended to through government approaches. How SDOH may impact wellbeing Gunasekara, F. I., Carter, K., Mckenzie, S. (2013). Income?related wellbeing imbalances in working age people in Australia and New Zealand. Australian New Zealand Journal of Public Health, 37(3), 211?217. doi:10.1111/1753?6405.12061 This segment examines how SDOH may impact wellbeing concerning the exploration by Gunasekara and partners. The creators intended to assess pay connected disparities in wellbeing in working-age guys and females in Australia and New Zealand. They used information from two longitudinal examinations to analyze focus records that assess the circulation of general and psychological wellness connected personal satisfaction (QOL) scores across pay in working-age guys and females. Also, decay assessments of the focus lists were performed to decide the impact of various factors on the salary related wellbeing imbalance. This examination unwound that pay, territorial hardship and inertia in the workforce were essential drivers of salary related wellbeing disparity. All in all, the creators note that pay and business are the main sources of wellbeing disparity in New Zealand (Gunasekara, Carter, Mckenzie, 2013, p. 211). This examination is pertinent to article theme since it is established on th e incongruities in wellbeing status and imbalances in wellbeing with an attention on financial position. The discoveries of this examination are like a few different investigations that have discovered that SDOH impact wellbeing straightforwardly. One ongoing investigation found that the Maori, Pacific and others with low financial status (SES) are at a higher danger of creating constant sicknesses contrasted with those with high SES. This distinction brings about high mortality and dreariness among the Maori and Pacific individuals (Sheridan et al., 2011, p. 45). Aside from these effects, the distinction in salaries likewise causes other wellbeing disparities. Shamshirgaran et al. (2013, p. 1223), directed an investigation to decide the impact of SES on the event of type II diabetes. They found that the occurrence of diabetes was higher in retirees and jobless individuals contrasted with the individuals who were utilized. Further, the occurrence of diabetes was commonly high in people with low livelihoods. This examination inferred that SES is an autonomous indicator of diabetes. Low SES can bring about the event of diabetes because of different variables. People with low livelihoods may need wellbeing proficiency on the avoidance of ceaseless sicknesses (Benjamin, 2010, p. 784). They may likewise need access to legitimate eating regimens and activities that help to forestall the event of diabetes. This contention is bolstered by inquire about performed by Grant and associates. In their examination, they researched the weight of transmittable maladies in Maori kids and non-transferable conditions among the grown-ups corresponding to destit ution. Neediness was seen as a significant supporter of transferable and non-transmittable sicknesses in this populace. Because of neediness, pregnant ladies need access to nutritious nourishments bringing about unforeseen weakness of their kids. A Recent report additionally affirms that region hardship in New Zealand prompts unexpected frailty. It has been discovered that a noteworthy number of the Maori individuals live in districts viewed as denied in the nation and this consider results wellbeing disparities (Bcares, Cormack, Harris, 2013, p. 76). Region hardship is straightforwardly connected with unforeseen weakness in view of inconsistent access to wellbeing administrations and work openings. How the NZ Health Strategy (2016) plans to help wellbeing and health in Aotearoa New Zealand The NZ Health Strategy (2016) comprises of five columns intended to improve the strength of the New Zealanders. The five columns additionally diagram an arrangement to help wellbeing and health in Aotearoa New Zealand. Individuals controlled: This column is steady with the Maori Health Strategy. In that capacity, the individuals fueled methodology champions the commitment of Maori in dynamic on social insurance administrations. Closer to home: This system advocates for bring care nearer to the individuals. It contends that various methodologies can be utilized to offer consideration to the individuals who live in remote zones. For example, the utilization of telehealth, outreach centers and versatile vans can be utilized to arrive at the denied territories (Minister of Health, 2016, p. 19). This system intends to utilize non-legislative associations to bring care nearer to the individuals. It refers to the case of Maori and Pacific methodologies and models, which can be grasped to make care moderate and available. Another arrangement is to utilize the Maori wellbeing system. The Maori wellbeing system would involve the utilization of populace based techniques to forestall long haul sicknesses and advance more advantageous decisions. Worth and superior: For Aotearoa New Zealand, this procedure expects to concentrate on Pacific local gathering. It intends to upgrade the nature of medicinal services for the populace bunches that face imbalances explicitly the Maori individuals. This key arrangement would be accomplished by wiping out infrastructural, physical and monetary obstructions to offer great wellbeing administrations. One group: This vital arrangement understands the need to limit hindrances that restrain individuals from using their aptitudes completely. It focuses to enable Maori wellbeing suppliers. The help for Maori wellbeing suppliers may incorporate the arrangement of wellbeing proficiency training. Additionally, it could involve offering people chances to contribute in the structuring of the wellbeing framework (Minister of Health, 2016, p. 29). Shrewd framework: The wellbeing framework imagines the utilization of savvy frameworks to offer consideration to the hindered networks. The shrewd framework would involve the utilization of innovation, for example, telehealth, which can be utilized to contact individuals in country territories (Dinesen et al., 2016, p. e53). End As obvious in this task, SDOH bring about wellbeing disparities in New Zealand. In view of the chose article, salary, local hardship and dormancy in the work power are huge reasons for wellbeing imbalances. Individuals from low SES are probably going to encounter unexpected weakness thought about those from high SES. The NZ Health Strategy of (2016) means to lessen these imbalances by improving access and planning socially delicate wellbeing administrations. References Bcares, L., Cormack, D., Harris, R. (2013). What Half Life Means for Evolution
Perhaps the most widely used evidence for the theory of evolution through natural selection is the fossil record. The fossil record may be incomplete and may never fully completed, but there are still many clues to evolution and how it happens within the fossil record. One way that helps scientists place fossils into the correct era on the geologic time scale is by using radiometric dating. Also called absolute dating, scientists use the decay of radioactive elements within the fossils or the rocks around the fossils to determine the age of the organism that was preserved. This technique relies on the property of half-life. What Is Half-Life? Half-life is defined as the time it takes for one-half of a radioactive element to decay into a daughter isotope. As radioactive isotopes of elements decay, they lose their radioactivity and become a brand new element known as a daughter isotope. By measuring the ratio of the amount of the original radioactive element to the daughter isotope, scientists can determine how many half-lives the element has undergone and from there can figure out the absolute age of the sample. The half-lives of several radioactive isotopes are known and are used often to figure out the age of newly found fossils. Different isotopes have different half-lives and sometimes more than one present isotope can be used to get an even more specific age of a fossil. Below is a chart of commonly used radiometric isotopes, their half-lives, and the daughter isotopes they decay into. Example of How to Use Half-Life Lets say you found a fossil you think to be a human skeleton. The best radioactive element to use to date human fossils is Carbon-14. There are several reasons why, but the main reasons is that Carbon-14 is a naturally occurring isotope in all forms of life and its half-life is about 5730 years, so we are able to use it to date more recent forms of life relative to the geologic time scale. You would need to have access to scientific instruments at this point that could measure the amount of radioactivity in the sample, so off to the lab we go! After you prepare your sample and put it into the machine, your readout says you have approximately 75% Nitrogen-14 and 25% Carbon-14. Now it is time to put those math skills to good use. At one half-life, you would have approximately 50% Carbon-14 and 50% Nitrogen-14. In other words, half (50%) of the Carbon-14 you started with has decayed into the daughter isotope Nitrogen-14. However, your readout from your radioactivity measuring instrument says you have only 25% Carbon-14 and 75% Nitrogen-14, so your fossil must have been through more than one half-life. After two half-lives, another half of your leftover Carbon-14 would have decayed into Nitrogen-14. Half of 50% is 25%, so you would have 25% Carbon-14 and 75% Nitrogen-14. This is what your readout said, so your fossil has undergone two half-lives. Now that you know how many half-lives have passed for your fossil, you need to multiply your number of half-lives by how many years are in one half-life. This gives you an age of 2 x 5730 11,460 years. Your fossil is of an organism (maybe human) that died 11,460 years ago. Commonly Used Radioactive Isotopes Parent Isotope Half-Life Daughter Isotope Carbon-14 5730 yrs. Nitrogen-14 Potassium-40 1.26 billion yrs. Argon-40 Thorium-230 75,000 yrs. Radium-226 Uranium-235 700,000 million yrs. Lead-207 Uranium-238 4.5 billion yrs. Lead-206

The temporal plan of academic work is the semester system. Section 2: Criterion-wise Analysis Criterion I: Curricular aspects The Velar College was established with a clear mission for empowerment of women, through diverse educational programmers. With this noble mission many curricular / academic programmers were developed and implemented through aided programmers initially. We will write a custom essay sample on Inplant Training Report on Textile Industry or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Later on self-finance courses are also being offered by the college. Although diverse programmers and infrastructure facilities are being provided, the management needs to focus n programmers with social and economic relevance to meet the challenges and present needs of the society. The College has Science, Arts and Commerce Faculties and all the academic programmers are guided by the University in terms of syllabi, examinations and evaluation, which leave little scope for innovative programmers to be offered by the college. It is significant to note that college has made efforts to introduce some job-oriented courses on self-financing basis such as Bio- Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Applications, Food Nutrition, Co- operation, Corporate Secretariats, Finance Control and Business Management. The curricular options are more academic oriented than career oriented. There are core courses and non-core options. There are foundation courses for creating general awareness and application oriented courses. If there are some courses on entrepreneurship management included in the curricular options, a graduate will be in a better position to generate employment for herself and others. At present the college does not have any mechanism to obtain feed back from academic peers, students and employers on the curriculum followed by the college. There is an urgent need to evolve a mechanism to formulate innovative programmers and modify existing programmer to suit the socio- economic environment Of the region. The industry institutional interaction may be explored to improve the quality of the academic programmers. As a women college, there is a need to initiate a Centre for women studies, which will enhance the scope for introducing more innovative and relevant courses in the curriculum. Recognized research guides for M. Phil. And/or Ph. D. Research scholars are available in History, English, Botany and Commerce departments. Masters courses in History, English, Commerce, Food Nutrition, Finance Control ND Computer Applications are offered.Master of Finance Control has immense scope for employment opportunities. Some of these professional courses need to be strengthened by involving practicing professionals to interact with the students on a regular basis. It may be noted that in the academic evaluation of the aided colleges undertaken by the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Government of Tamil Nadia, in 1998-99. Velar College for Women ranked 28th among the 141 colleges for undergraduate courses and 1 7th among 117 colleges running postgraduate courses. Criterion II: Teaching-learning and EvaluationTeaching, Learning and Evaluation constitute the crux of the quality of educational services. In an effective system of education, appropriate inputs need to be given to get the desirable output. To do this the institution needs to be in a position to judge the students knowledge and offer the remedial courses to get them prepared for that course. It is desirable, therefore, to identify weaker students right at the beginning of the academic session, immediately after the admission to the first year, and offer remedial courses. The teaching process adopted by a few teachers is commendable. While a few cheers have adopted innovative and newer methods of teaching, many need to switch over to a more efficient methodology of teaching. The college should make available latest educational technology and encourage the staff and students to use such aids more frequently. The College is quite strong on co-curricular activities. Students take part in cultural activities. Some students are proficient in Physical activities like Karate, gymnastics and sports. College encourages sports activities of the students. Some of the students of the college, in the past, were members of the university team and participated at the national level sports meets. Most noteworthy achievement of the students of the college is the participation of two NC cadets in the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi. One of the girls has also participated in a mountaineering expedition at Trashiest in the Grammar Himalayas. Some students actively take part in inter collegiate debates, quizzes and other competitions. The examination is conducted by the University at the end of the semester. However, the college should encourage teachers to adopt a creative and innovative evaluation process to identify the extent of knowledge absorption by the students so that remedial measures can be initiated. Teacher recruitment is done according to the rules and procedures laid down by the government. The selection of teachers is done through written tests, demonstration lectures in a classroom followed by an interview. The process of appointing teachers in the Self-financing departments will have to be reviewed and more rigorous procedure could be adopted.Faculty development programmers should be initiated by the college with a multi-pronged approach, consisting of, short term programmers arranged in the college in different departments by inviting experts and guest faculty from national level teaching and research institutes. Faculty should be encouraged and also be given financial support to attend Faculty development t programmers. The students evaluation of teachers may be furth er strengthened at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It is also highly essential to monitor the teaching practices by a well-designed procedure and reward good and innovative teachers. There are teachers with good academic and research output in some departments of Velar College for Women, only their tribe should increase. College does not have any national or international level linkages and tie-ups for research or teaching. There is an urgent need for the college to look up for such linkages for its own development. Criterion Ill: Research, Consultancy and Extension Velar College has very few teachers involved in active research. Since the college is still developing postgraduate departments, the research output and the research culture is yet to be enhanced. The Department of Physics, Commerce, History and English have procured grants from ICC towards minor research project Although the staff has the freedom to publish their research in academic forum, only few faculty members were able to avail of this opportunity. Currently research programmers are being conducted only in mom grant in aid departments. Faculty, currently, are not doing any individual or institutional consultancy work although there is a lot Of scope for Some of the departmental staff to take up consultancy work.Industry-institutional interface will promote research and consultancy operations. It is encouraging to note that the college has undertaken a number of extension activities like INS, Surgical, Youth Red Cross and NC to promote community services. Faculty and students have participated in outreach programmers like medical camp, tree plantation, blood donation camps and adopting orphanages. Some of the extension activities are implemented in collaboration with Nags and GOES such as Penchant, Government Hospital, Department of Forestry, etc.Tindal and Congressionally are adopted by INS where they constructed bus stop shelter for the villagers, white washing and painting the school and renovating water tank and constructi on of platform for school. They have conducted awareness programmer on Yoga in daily life, Nature the basis of life, Empowerment of women, Irrigations projects, Rain harvesting Integrated crop Management, Vermin-culture, Bio-fertilizers importance of Natural fertilizers. Role of women in agriculture, agro-based industries, health and nutrition and eradication of anemia. The College should organize more outreach programmers in the areas of adult education, eradication of child labor and public health. More medical camps in surrounding villages will help poor people. Self-employment opportunities and entrepreneurship development among rural women is one area where the college could focus on. Legal awareness programmers should be conducted for women in the neighboring areas. Criterion IV: Infrastructure and Learning Resources The campus is spread over 38. 29 acres housing Velar College for Women, n Engineering College and a Higher Secondary School including hostels and playgrounds. It has ample built in space for the classrooms, laboratories, computer laboratories and administrative offices. The infrastructure includes spacious well ventilated classrooms, staff rooms, library, hostels, conference room, bank, non-resident student centre, canteen, vehicle parking shed, games room, play fields, NC room and co-operative stores. The physical infrastructure is put to use not only for college programmers but also for use by certain external agencies. Optimal use of infrastructure is made by the college. The time table is spread in such a way that classrooms and laboratories are used optimally. However, some departments need more space for housing their staff. The hostel may provide adequate study facilities for the students. The library is housed centrally in a separate building. There are around 34000 books. The library subscribes to 72 magazines and 22 journals. The number of foreign journals are three. More scientific journals may be added. It is advisable to allocate money for procuring more books to meet the growing requirements of the students. The college has three computer laboratories for Computer Science, BCC and MAC students. The total number of computers on the campus is 135. There should be central computer facility which could be used by all the faculties, since most of the departments do not have independent computer facility. Laboratories in the Science departments of Physics, Chemistry, Botany, andZoology are equipped and maintained for undergraduate students. However additional facilities have to be provided for research students and the staff if they have to pursue research. The college does not have an independent health centre. The Manipulation Of Othello Essays - Othello, English-language Films
The Manipulation Of Othello The Manipulation of Othello William Shakespeare's Othello presents all of the elements of a great tragedy, according to Aristotle's definition: A tragedy is the imitation in dramatic form of an action that is serious and complete, with incidents arousing pity and fear wherewith it effects a catharsis of such emotions (Poetics 14) He also adds, The language used is pleasurable and throughout, appropriate to the situation in which it is used. The central features of the Aristotelian archetype are manifested in General Othello's character. Although Othello is great, he is not perfect. He has a tragic flaw, hubris (excessive pride and passion), and hamartia (some error), which lead to his downfall. However, Othello's misfortune is not wholly deserved. His punishment exceeds the crime, keeping him admirable in the theatergoer's eyes. Before Othello's tragic flaw results in his unfortunate death, he has increased awareness and gained self-knowledge or, as Aristotle describes it has experienced a discovery. (Poetics 1 5) All of this produces a catharsis or emotional release at the end of the play. A tragedy, when well performed, does not leave an audience in a state of depression but creates a shared, common experience. What causes Othello's downfall? Some critics claim that Othello's tragic flaw is his jealousy while others insist that jealousy is not part of his character, that the emotion takes over only when Iago pushes him to the brink of insanity. Evidence in the play supports the notion of insanity. Othello doesn't show himself to be jealous early in the play. It is not until Othello is manipulated by Iago's skillful lies that he is forced to confront his jealousy and mistrust. His love and trust of Iago serve to prove his gullibility, Jealousy and self-doubt poison his sensibilities and innocence, and the realization of his blind trust leads to his sorrowful end. As with most of Shakespeare's tragic heroes, Othello possesses all the virtues prescribed for the character type. He is of noble birth; he is self-controlled; he is religious; he has the respect of his men; and he demonstrates excellent leadership. His magnetism is what draws Venetian senators and soldiers alike and what captivates Desdemona. All of this supports the idea that he is not (at the play's opening) a jealous, enraged, or mad man. He has convincing self-esteem which he later loses to the deception of Iago's evil ploy. It can be noted that Othello's character flaw is his blind trust and naivet?. These character traits contribute to his misled downfall. It would be neglectful, if not irresponsible, to overlook Iago's role in the play. His hate for Othello and Cassio drives his evil motive through a string of lies affecting the entire cast. From the first act, the antagonist is troubled: I know my price, I am worth no worse a place. But he (as loving his own pride and purposes) Evades them with a bumbast circumstance Horribly stuff'd epithites of war, [And in conclusion,] Nonsuits my mediators; for, Certes, says he, I have already chose my officer. And what was he? Forsooth, a great arithmetician, One Michael Cassio, a Florentine (A fellow almost damn'd in a fair wife), That never set a squadron in the field, Nor the division of a battle knows (Othello. I.i.11-23) Iago never reveals his dissatisfaction with the military arrangement to Othello. Instead, he makes use of Othello's innocence and trust to satisfy his wicked end. He constantly boasts of his love for Othello and patronizes him regularly throughout the play. At Iago's first attempt to instill jealousy in the trusting Othello, he is successful. Othello's concern at Iago's implications entices him to learn more. Iago plays a verbal game with Othello to arouse suspicion. This piques Othello's interest and starts his mind to wonder. Iago is successful at the point he proclaims, O, beware, my lord, of jealousy! It is the green-ey'd monster which doth mock The meat it feeds on. That cuckold lives in bliss Who, certain of his fate, loves not his wronger; But O, what damned minutes tells he o'er Who dotes, yet doubts; suspects, yet [strongly] loves! (Othello. III.iii.163-168) One of the major qualities that comes to mind when assessing Othello is his trustfulness. He claims that Iago is a man of honesty and trust; To his conveyance I assign my wife (I.iii.286). Othello has no reason to

Free Essays on Linear Regression
Regression Analysis can be identified as providing a ââ¬Å"best-fitâ⬠mathematical equation for the values of the two variables that you chose to analyze. From this we get two types of analysis, one being Simple Linear Regression Analysis, which we have been working with. This type of analysis can be defined as a regression model that uses one independent variable to explain the variation in the dependent variable. From the data given we have chosen to look at the affect experience (in years) has at this given company on annual salary. From gathering the data it is my hypothesis that there will be a positive linear relationship between experience and annual salary. Now lets see if the data supports or contests this. The first thing done when using the mini-tab program is to put all your data into the columns. Once you have done that you can start to look at your regression analysis. Because I inserted the data by hand, the columns are as follows: C1: Annual salary in dollars, C2: Experience in years, C3: Gender, C4: Age (years), C5: Training level (A=1, B=2, C=3). From the regression analysis the first thing we get is B1. The B1 value is located on the computer print out under the coefficient column and the horizontal column C2. The B1 value tells us that for every unit change in X, it will contribute to the Y by 1833.9 units. Since we have a positive slope, a one-unit increase in X will lead to an increase in Y by 1833.9 units. After we find out what B1 is we then can find out what B0 is which is also located under the coefficient column horizontally in the constant column. This value is 34,620 which to us means that when X is zero then Y(hat)=34620. The fundamental equation for our r egression analysis is Y(hat)= 34620+ 1833.9X. From this equation we can now predict what our annual salary will be using a value of X or the years of experience. There are three important terms the Sum of the Squared Error, the Sum of Sq... At School I Have Been Bullied by a Teacher
At School I Have Been Bullied by a Teacher Hashtag: #EnElColegioTengo (At school I have) Why Some Teachers Crossed the Line? A 14-year old girl in her second year of high school was yelled at, humiliated, and sent out of the room by her well-experienced male science teacher for simply asking stupid questions. Teachers who bullied their students, according to study, were mostly new teachers overwhelmed by frustrations or tenured teachers who were very set in their ways and unwilling to change their traditional coercive teaching practices. A few instances of accidental coercive reaction due to lack of experience and frustrating studentsââ¬â¢ behavior may be acceptable for new teachers but the bullying male science teacher is a veteran teacher. One explanation is the fact bullying behavior is rooted in personal values, ingrained, and consistent with the way a person understands the world. Since the behavior of tenured teachers served them well in the past and in fact earned them their current position and authority, they see themselves as superior, arrogant and unsympathetic towards ââ¬Å"inferiorâ⬠students. Study of bullying teachers shows that regardless of frustration or studentââ¬â¢s positive behavior, teachers who are more senior, tenured, and experienced teachers routinely practiced bullying behavior. These include habitual utterance of offensive or suggestive language, derogatory or degrading remarks, get involved in coercive sexual behavior, racist and sexist comments, embarrassing, threatening, and intimidating remarks. Moreover, regardless of their position and authority, they engaged in spreading false rumors in an attempt to discredit and socially isolate an individual. Is There a Cure for Teacherââ¬â¢s Bullying Behavior? Connecting with students in both personal and professional manner is often very challenging. The study shows that teachers who cannot control a student displaying negative behavior in class often engage in power struggle until they become frustrated and respond with bullying. For this reason, it may be helpful for teachers to avoid engaging in the power struggle with aggressive or irritating students. Some of the recommended strategies to avoid power struggle is to build a positive relationship with students through caring concern, constructive feedback, and respect. For example, teachers communicating respectfully, paying attention to students concern, acknowledging those with positive behaviors, working with each student to address behavioral problems is unlikely to get negative responses from students. In contrast, those who used force and engaging in the power struggle, make a public scene of a studentââ¬â¢s negative behavior, and taking it too personal often form the negative relationship, increased the potential for burnout, frustration, and bullying behavior. The above recommendations are clearly not inapplicable to ââ¬Å"superiorâ⬠tenured teachers who in a way value their deeply rooted unethical teaching practices. Since the principal in practice avoids dismissing these senior bullies, some of them were reassigned to non-teaching positions where cannot harm students. Other less senior bullies, probably those with potential for change, were sent to some sort of anti-bullying programs aimed at changing their culture, attitudes, feelings, and behavior. In preventing tenured teachersââ¬â¢ bullying, some programs encourage teaching and non-teaching staff to report a teacher bullying a student. Others conducted a student empowerment session aimed at balancing the power inside the classroom. This program in practice promotes awareness of bullying behaviors and their consequences and eventually developed respect between both parties.

Strategic Human Resource Search - Essay Example Most advisors have felt that the hotel should revise the contracts of some of these hotels in order to keep up the reputation of the larger chain. One of the greatest issues and challenges that faced the hotel chain was the sad reports that most of its chains were affected by bed-bugs (Brody 2011). Well, considering the nature of such reports and the impact it had on the organization, it can indeed be realized that the reputation of Marriot was indeed damaged by the reports which unfortunately were given much airplay and address by news agencies across the world. The reports which were mainly reported in 2010 and 2011 came through complaints on the internet where people reported being bitten by bedbugs after boarding in particular chains of the hotel. The issue became publicized to the extent that news agencies like CNN were able to address it in their casts. Sure enough, in the subject of food and hospitality, tidiness and proper care are simply indispensable (Enz 2010). In such a competitive environment where competitors can greatly gain from any tiny mistakes, the reputation of the organization holds everything. Marriot ind eed lost a lot of potential customers and other strategic partners who felt the hotel was not doing enough to address the very fundamental issues. Nevertheless, despite these challenges, the executives at Marriot have indeed tried to address the issues with a lot of concern by instituting several campaigns to build the seemingly shattered reputation of the organization. The challenge has been great but the Hotel has been forced to invest millions of dollars in the bid to improve its image. Much challenge was thrown to the human resources department in tackling the human resources aspect since most of the fault could be linked with lazy employees. On the same account, much research was conducted on the issue to find out

ANOVA - Essay Example The trainers held various positions in the program and had varying levels of education and job experience as well. The aim of the research was to determine whether the level of job satisfaction among athletic trainers varied relative to certain demographic characteristics. These included gender, tenure, position, age, and educational level. Data was collected using the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). The MSQ measured intrinsic, extrinsic, and overall job satisfaction. Moreover, demographic information was likewise collected as these were used to group or classify the sample. Statistical analysis involved descriptive statistics with increased importance given to the measurement of the mean, variance, and standard deviation. The ANOVA test was then used to compare the levels of job satisfaction based on demographic characteristics. For instance, using the said tool, it was determined that groups classified according to the position they held had statistically significant differences with regards to their overall job satisfaction levels. Also, it was discovered that statistically significant differences existed between the subgroups based on their gender, age, educational level, and tenure.

The Dance Revolution of the 1970ââ¬â¢s Essay -- Sociology Culture Essays
The Dance Revolution of the 1970ââ¬â¢s Contact improvisation is a modern dance form where two people move while maintaining a connection. It originated from portions of Steve Paxtonââ¬â¢s movement studies, which he began in 1972 at Oberlin College. As with every major event that happens in the world, the introduction and investigation of contact improvisation affected everyone in society one way or another. Many people associate the 1970ââ¬â¢s as the ââ¬Å"hippie eraâ⬠in American history. Due to this, the majority of society was open to new ideas. It was the beginning of the sexual revolution and the womenââ¬â¢s revolution was just getting underway. Younger members of society were participating in at least one of the numerous Vietnam War Protests, which they organized. They were into ââ¬Å"free loveâ⬠; they wanted to do away with racism and allow everyone to be treated the same and on the same level. As a result of the vast majority of society and open mindness, Paxtonââ¬â¢s ideas in the new movement were accepted. Those who attended performances, also referre...

How Does Steinbeck Use The Character Of Crooks To Highlight Certain Issues Essay
1930ââ¬â¢s hit, America lay in financial ruins and deep devastation as the great depression strikes. Causing economic depression throughout the 20th century and leaving many lives in tatters as American citizens face losing money, stock, homes, savings and more importantly jobs. Dealing with unemployment men turn helplessly to migrant working. Moving away from home (if they have one) and getting into manual labour on farms for low pay and a place to stay although it wasnââ¬â¢t structured employment and they found themselves moving from place to place. As Poverty led to working on ranches ââ¬Ëof mice and menââ¬â¢ was born, a novel written in the late 1930ââ¬â¢s to unravel the issues and unfair ways of the 30ââ¬â¢s and the great depression. Highlighting poverty, loneliness, sexism and more importantly Racism, the main theme of the story. Being a major issue Racism swarmed America and started taking over most white peoples heads. Black slavery was behind them but unfortunately racism/discrimination towards different races wasnââ¬â¢t and the Jim Crow laws were soon introduced quickly segregating coloured people and making them outcasts in there own countries. So we were 100 years after slavery, but we were smack bang in the middle of segregation and this, was also not a nice experience for the black race. In a bid to stop the black Americans from being equal, the southern states passed a series of laws known as Jim Crow laws which discriminated against blacks and made sure that they were segregated from whites. Blacks were gradually fired from most jobs and had to use different transport, bathrooms ect. To white people, whites started to rule America. ââ¬ËCrooksââ¬â¢ Is a character Steinbeck created to highlight how unfairly this time was and with no real importance to the story crooks has a major importance in the book as he was put there to show us how wrong segregation really was and how lonely and miss treated these people were. We first get an idea of crooks in chapter two where he is first bought up, not being on the scene yet we get a little picture of what heââ¬â¢s like and what his role is. Candy explains how when the boss is in a bad mood itââ¬â¢s always taken out on the stable buck stating ââ¬Å"Anââ¬â¢ he give the stable buck hell, too'â⬠meaning Crooks, Instantly the first time Crooks is mentioned in the whole book its in a negative way as through innocence heââ¬â¢s treated as if done something wrong. Candy informs George and Lenny why the stable buck gets hell by simply adding on ââ¬Å"ya see the stablebucks a niggerâ⬠in those days racial slurs such as the language used towards black pe ople wasnââ¬â¢t looked upon as bad but looked upon as normal, they were allowed to say things like that whereas now days youââ¬â¢d get in a lot of trouble as racism isnââ¬â¢t accepted. Candy goes on to tell them how Crooks isnââ¬â¢t allowed in the bunk house, the small typically western and simple room full of beds were they all sleep. He isnââ¬â¢t allowed in simply because heââ¬â¢s black and segregation prevents him from doing so as its mixing with white people which was frowned upon at the time. He says ââ¬Å"they let the nigger in that nightâ⬠reminiscing one Christmas when Crooks was allowed in the bunk house ââ¬Å"smitty took after the nigger, done pretty good tooâ⬠he tells of how a white man called smitty decided to beat crooks up just for fun and says ââ¬Å"the guys wouldnââ¬â¢t let him use his feetâ⬠on account of crooks having a crooked back they thought although beating him up for no reason, just entertainment they think its fair because he couldnââ¬â¢t use feet. But were not getting all negative trades from crooks, candy also says ââ¬Å"Nice Fella, too.â⬠ââ¬Å"He Reads a lot, got a lot of books in his roomâ⬠Steinbeck has made crooks intelligent, heââ¬â¢s made it so crooks won the fight against smitty and has made him a ââ¬Ënice guyââ¬â¢ because he wanted to avoid the typical stereotype victim of a black man he does so by giving him pride, identity and not showing major weekness. Heââ¬â¢s also made him crippled to give him more strength and more of a heroic side. It also means heââ¬â¢s trapped at the ranch as it would be rare for any other place to take him in so already before we meet this character we have a lot of sympathy and respect for him and all heââ¬â¢s going through. We finally do get to meet him in chapter 3, although it is fairly brief. Crooks pokes his head through the door of the bunkhouse as he isnââ¬â¢t allowed to step into it, knowing he cant step any further he calls slim but instead of saying slim he says ââ¬Å"Mr slimâ⬠, black people had to formally address white people so crooks was expected to use Mr and Mrs or Maââ¬â¢am and Sir when approaching a white person, if approaching one at all otherwise heââ¬â¢d get in a lot of trouble and maybe be hung, he was thought to respect white people as if not worthy to them. We then officially meet Crooks in chapter 4, a whole chapter dedicated to him which in such a short novel with such an unimportant character is very rare but Steinbeck obviously felt very strongly about racism and getting an image across that crooks had an identity and personality, he was just like the rest of them but was hated because of the colour of his skin. Crooks has the longest introduction to his character and where he lives in the book so that we get a vivid description and a chance to get to know him, and that he is a real character with a personality and feelings. Crooks is said to live in ââ¬Å"a little shed that leaned off the wall of the barnâ⬠, putting crooks in the barn and saying ââ¬Å"crooks had an apple box over his bunk, and in it a range of medicine bottles, both for himself and the horsesâ⬠shows his status is that of an animal, they class him as dirt, lower then the horses. His bed is just a box on hay and blankets as well, which is also Steinbeck creating an image of a man treated like an animal. Stereotypes would of thought he was a dirty black man but in actual fact crooks is a ââ¬Å"proudâ⬠and clean man. Being old, crippled and most importantly black crooks has been unable to get himself a girlfriend and being like he is never will, so as a substitute to a female he has ââ¬Å"dirty booksâ⬠. When Lenny Meets Crooks he doesnââ¬â¢t have a clue about racism, he isnââ¬â¢t racist in any shape or form as he has the mind of a child and doesnââ¬â¢t understand it. He asks ââ¬Å"why ainââ¬â¢t you wantedâ⬠because he cant see why crooks wouldnââ¬â¢t be allowed in the bunk house which shows racism isnââ¬â¢t natural or in genes or occurs to you as a kid, racism is taught to you by the people you grow up with and by pictures you see in the society. Lenny doesnââ¬â¢t use his white status in his discussion with crooks what so ever and in the conversation crooks actually has the upper hand for once. Crooks says ââ¬Å"this hereââ¬â¢s my room. Nobody got any right in here but meâ⬠and trys to get rid of Lenny, but its not that he doesnââ¬â¢t want the company because he does, thatââ¬â¢s what he craves the most but itââ¬â¢s a matter of principle, he has the idea that white people donââ¬â¢t let him in there room, so why should he let them in his room? Heââ¬â¢s read up his place in society and he knows his rights, and one of his rights is his room. Crooks snaps at Lenny saying ââ¬Å"I aint no southern nigroâ⬠showing he hasnââ¬â¢t accepted the fact that heââ¬â¢s less of a man then Lenny, he knows heââ¬â¢s the same apart from a colour and he has a confidence. He starts patronizing and teasing Lenny to make himself feel better as he seeââ¬â¢s someone thatââ¬â¢s an easier target then himself to pick of which proves a nasty streak. Upsetting Lenny saying things like ââ¬Å"spose George went into town and you never heard of him no moreâ⬠and ââ¬Å"theyââ¬â¢ll take you to the booby hatch. Theyââ¬â¢ll tie you up with a collar, like a dogâ⬠. Crooks didnââ¬â¢t always used to be segregated either, he went to a normal school and had white friends but his dad didnââ¬â¢t approve as he knew it wouldnââ¬â¢t last and theyââ¬â¢d grow up and turn on him. ââ¬Å"on my old mans chicken ranchâ⬠his family owned a chicken ranch so he wasnââ¬â¢t from a poor typical black slave family, showing the great depression could put you in circumstances unlike the ones you grew up in. he says ââ¬Å"its just a nigger saying itâ⬠recognising nothing he says means anything and he doesnââ¬â¢t have a say because heââ¬â¢s black. In Lenny and Crooks conversation there on completely different wave lengths, speaking on different levels completely. Its easy for crooks to tell his story and to have someone to talk to about his feelings and loneliness because he knows Lenny isnââ¬â¢t taking anything in and wont remember a thing, its just a physical presence to talk to so he isnââ¬â¢t talking to himself. Crooks only picks on Lenny because of power and status, most his life heââ¬â¢s been teased and tortured and the boss gives him such hell so heââ¬â¢s finally found someone he can tease and torture back. We get an insight of crooks loneliness and understand how much its really getting to him so we forgive him for the teasing because we know Lennyââ¬â¢s situation is no were near as bad as Crooks, crooks has no one but Lenny has always had George, Crooks expresses this crying ââ¬Å"you know heââ¬â¢s going to come back, spose you didnââ¬â¢t have nobody, spose you couldnââ¬â¢t go into the bunk house and play rummy because your blackâ⬠he obviously is so desperately lonely, he wants someone to talk to more then anything and its made even worse as he hasnââ¬â¢t always been like this. He explains how he ââ¬Å"had two brothers, they were always near me, always there. Used to sleep in the same roomâ⬠so he was used to having his brothers around, sharing a room and having someone to talk to all the time. Heââ¬â¢s been separated from family and friends for a lifetime alone and with social levels rock bottom stifling loneliness Is putting him in a mental state and heââ¬â¢s trying to put Lenny in his shoes. Crooks seems very cynical and sceptical about Lennys dream and has given up all hope in religion saying ââ¬Å"nobody ever gets to heavenâ⬠he doesnââ¬â¢t believe a god would put him through this. Crooks also defends himself saying ââ¬Å"you say I smell, well you all smell to meâ⬠he most probably doesnââ¬â¢t really thing white people ââ¬Ësmellââ¬â¢ itââ¬â¢s just a matter of if you can say it to me, I can say it to you. Itââ¬â¢s almost childish, you smell, no you do! Then Candy comes onto the scene and joins Crooks and Lenny. Crooks is happy to have all this sudden company, something heââ¬â¢d dreamed of happening and is more then pleased to have people in the barn with him not that heââ¬â¢d let that on. Candy says ââ¬Å"I been here a long time, an crooks been here a long time. This is the first time Iââ¬â¢ve been in this roomâ⬠heââ¬â¢s proving the real depth of segregation as theyââ¬â¢ve both been there years and years but they have never seen each otherââ¬â¢s rooms but segregation like this was normal. Crooks proves just how lonely he is when he offers to give up all freedom and pay to work for nothing and become almost a slave for George, Lenny and Candy and in return, just some company hesitatingly saying ââ¬Å"if youâ⬠¦guys would want a hand to work for nothing-just his keep, why Iââ¬â¢d come an lend a hand.â⬠. Then itââ¬â¢s all unsettled by Curleyââ¬â¢s wifeââ¬â¢s appearance. Sheââ¬â¢s nearly as lonely as crooks, not allowed to talk to anyone but her husband who she doesnââ¬â¢t feel for at all. He leaves her alone to go to the whore house and sheââ¬â¢s expected to talk to nobody. Sheââ¬â¢s hurt and looking for some company, just someone to talk to. She expresses her loneliness saying ââ¬Å"what am I doing? Talking to a bunch of bindle stiffs- a nigger an a dum-dum and a lousy ol sheep and im liking itâ⬠although sheââ¬â¢s insulting them sheââ¬â¢s just as desperate for some company and wants them to talk to her, but they have other ideas. They have it drummed into there heads sheââ¬â¢s trouble and Crookââ¬â¢s especially knows he shouldnââ¬â¢t be talking to her. He coldly shouts at her saying ââ¬Å"I had enough, you got no rights coming in a coloured mans room. You got no rights messing around in here at all. Now you just get out an get out quick. If you donââ¬â¢t, im gonna ask the boss not to ever let you come in the barn no moreâ⬠crookââ¬â¢s overstepped the mark in the society he lives in. he canââ¬â¢t in reality boss around a white woman. He hasnââ¬â¢t said anything unreasonable, he knows his rights but heââ¬â¢s threatening her giving himself a level of authority. She replyââ¬â¢s to that in a bad way snapping at him ââ¬Å"listen, nigger you know what I can do to you if you open your trap? You know what I could do?â⬠he realises heââ¬â¢s overdone it and returns to his normal lonely self responding with a simple ââ¬Å"yes maââ¬â¢amâ⬠and ââ¬Ësits down on his bunk drawing into himselfââ¬â¢. After having Candy and Lenny in the room and being able to have normal conversations leaving out any racism heââ¬â¢s almost forgotten himself and segregation, the time he had with the other two was more like a bit of fantasy not reality. He thought for a minute he could have an equal friendship but then Curleyââ¬â¢s wife comes and snaps him out of it and reminds him of his place and status. What he did was paralyse his childhood when he played with white kids, he just fooled himself into thinking they were maybe his friends but after the argument he soon realises that this would never happen, he would never be accepted so after she leaves he changes. He turns cold on the other two again and withdraws his offer to work for company although heââ¬â¢d still love to do it, he thinks itââ¬â¢s just a far away dream as black people will never have equal friendships with white people. Curleyââ¬â¢s wife has proved sheââ¬â¢s racist but sheââ¬â¢s not alone in that, she threatened to have him hung. All sheââ¬â¢d of had to do was run back to the ranch and tell the boss or Curley he touched her and heââ¬â¢d be killed without trial, just as a form of revenge. Crookââ¬â¢s would just have to be accused by a white person and there authority would get him killed, that was the reality of being a black man, that was the reality of crookââ¬â¢s situation. Taking the racism and unfairness of segregation in the 1930ââ¬â¢s Steinbeck has successfully created this character of a black man, trapped in his crippled body, desperately lonely and abused but given him an identity, a personality, a proper background and family and made him a real person. Heââ¬â¢s highlighted how badly they were treated, how they felt, what they went through and what we cant let happen again in the future. Crooks wasnââ¬â¢t a part of the story as such but he was there to represent what it was like at the time and the seriousness of the horrors of racism that went on and heââ¬â¢s done that outstandingly giving a perfect picture and make us as an audience feel for the character of Crooks and actually think about what went on back then and to help ensure segregation will never return.
